Fruits families

 When we talk about fruits, there are several different families that the fruits can be classified into. Knowing which family a fruit belongs to can help us understand more about its characteristics, nutritional value, and taste. Let's take a look at some of the different fruit family types and examples of each. 


The first type of fruit family is Citrus Fruits. These fruits are tart and acidic in flavor, usually containing higher levels of Vitamin C than other fruit families. Examples of citrus fruits include oranges, grapefruit, lemons, and limes. 


The next type of fruit family is Stone Fruits. These fruits are known for their single large seed in the center and often contain higher levels of Vitamin A than other families. Examples of stone fruits include peaches, apricots, plums, and cherries. 


The third type of fruit family is Berries. These are usually small but full of powerful antioxidants like polyphenols and anthocyanins. Berries also tend to have a sweeter flavor compared to other fruits due to their high sugar content. Examples of berries include strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and cranberries. 


The fourth type of fruit family is Melons & Gourds. These tend to have a juicy texture with sweet flavors that can range from mild to intense depending on the variety. Melons and gourds often have thicker skin compared to other types of fruits as well as large seeds inside them. Examples of melons & gourds include watermelons, cantaloupes, pumpkins, cucumbers, and zucchini squash. 


Lastly there is Tropical Fruits which includes a wide variety of unique-tasting fruits from all around the world such as pineapple from Hawaii or mangosteen from Southeast Asia for example. Some examples tropical fruits are papaya, mangoes, kiwi fruit, guava, dragonfruit and starfruit among others! 


There you have it – five different types of fruit families with many examples! With this knowledge in hand you'll now be able to identify your favorite types more easily next time you visit your local supermarket or farmers market!
